8- days combined Atlas trek and desert tour

Day 1: Marrakech – imlil valley (Agersioual village:

Transfer from Marrakech to Agersioual, meet the team ; guide, cook and muleteers then set off on first day which will be an acclimatisation trek in the Ouirgane National Park. The terrain here is gentler with copper green soil and juniper trees. Overnight in Gite in a Berber Village of Tizian. Aprox. 4-5 hrs walking time. (B,L,D)

Day 2:

After breakfast you’ll head up and out of the valley and traverse over to the stunning Azzaden Valley. The views open up with a rushing mountan stream surrounded by lush walnut groves leading up towards Toubkal and her sister peaks at the head of the Valley. Overnight in a village Gite or camping. Aprox. 7 hours walking. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Today involves a fairly stiff climb out of the Azzadene Valley to the Toubkal Refuge past the the Ighouliden waterfalls and over the Aguelzim Mountain pass at 3,560m. Lunch will be taken with spectacular views over the Atlas Mountain Range. Overnight in the Toubkal Refuge (Niltner Hut) at 3,200m where you’ll likely be sharing a bunk room with other trekkers tackling Toubkal early the next morning. Aprox. 7 hours walking. (B,L,D)

Day 4:

Wake-up early for the climb up Toubkal (4,167m) from where, clouds allowing, you’ll have wonderful views over the Atlas Range and the Sahara Desert. then descend all the way back  past the refuge and the well-worn path back to Imlil. This is a fairly long day with 8-9 hours of trekking, involving 900m up then almost 2,500m back down to Imlil! Where you will spend a confortable  night in  gesthouse overlooking Mount Toubkal and surrounded by lush walnut groves.

Day 5: Imlil – Dades Valley

You will be picked up from your accommodation in Imlil at 9.00am and head out over the Atlas Mountains, driving over the stunning Tizi-n-Tichka mountain pass. You’ll pass through lots of Berber villages, and once you’re in the desert, you’ll see riverside oases and barren hillsides dotted with kasbahs (fortified dwellings that house families and their livestock). Along the way, you will have the option either to take a break and visit the Ouarzazate Film Studios or stop for a hike. Once you reach Dades Gorge, you have the option of going for a hike, or relaxing at your hotel. Overnight in Dades. (Total driving time 4 – 5 hours)

Day 6: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Merzouga

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from the Dades Valley to Todra Gorge – a massive fault dividing the High Atlas mountains, rising up300 metres in a narrow valley with palmeries and Berber villages. Here, you can go for a hike to explore the palmery, a green oasis full of large date palms. After lunch you’ll head further into the desert to the gateway town of Merzouga to pick up supplies for your desert trip. You will then drive on to a kasbah to pick up your camel. At sunset, you’ll trek for an hour-and-a-half by camel to a Berber camp where you will enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, and sleep under the stars or in tents at a desert camp. (Total driving time 3 – 4 hours)

Day 7: Merzouga – Ait Benhaddou

Wake to a desert sunrise and then return to the kasbah by camel. You will then have a chance to freshen up and enjoy a breakfast. Once you are refreshed, you will head out of the desert for a drive to Ait Benhaddou. This is an ancient fortified city containing countless kasbahs and has been the atmospheric subject of numerous hollywood movies (The Mummy, Gladiator, Alexander, Lawrence of Arabia…) You will have the chance to walk around the buildings and explore with your guide. Day 8: Ait Benhaddou – Marrakech

Travel along the Ounilla Valley to the Telouet Kasbah, a crumbling kasbah that was once an important stop for traders. Explore the Kasbah and then after lunch, you will head back over the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass to Marrakech (Total driving time 2 – 3 hours)   IMG_2187

2 Days Trek Azzaden Valley:

Overview :

Azzaden & Imlil valleys Travel from Marrakech through many little hamlets and Berber villages to the magnificent Western High Atlas Mountains. Trek past the villages of Imlil, Arghen and M’zzik. Visit; a village in the Assif Aït Mizane Valley, overlooking ancient irrigated terraced fields of fruit trees and vegetables. Get over Tiz M’zzik Mountain pass (2450m) and descent through junipper trees down to Tizi Oussem village for the night . On day2, you Trek will take you down to Azzaden Valley ( Assif Azzaden), passing through several Berber hamlets and up to the Tizi Oudite pass and down to the village of Aguersiouâl. Enjoy your lunch by the river before you set for another hour up the Imlil valley prior to get back to the village of imlil and transfer back to Marrakech.

Itinerary:

After breakfast in Marrakech, pick up & drive towards the high Atlas Mountains via Tahnnaout, Oued Ghighaya & Asni, enjoy the stunning view of the villages along the valet. Arrival to Imlil (65km from Marrakech), meet the guide & multeer andthen start the trek & climb Tizi Mzik pass (2450m), spectacular view over Imlil valley & Toubkal Summit, continue to Tamsoulte to visit the highest waterfalls in the Atlas Mountains (100m of hight), down the Azzaden valley through juniper forest to get to Tizi Oussem village. Overnight at the Guest house in the village. 6hrs walking.

Day 2: Tizi Oussem (1850m) – Id Issa village (1800m) – Tizi Oudid (2000m) – Mattat – Agersioual – Marrakech:

After breakfast, enjoy the sunshine on this colorful valley & its marvelous typical Berber villages, leave Tizi Oussem & continue down to Id Issa village, before heading up to Tizi Oudid mountain pass (2000m), cross matat village after a wild thurifer juniper forest, get lunch under walnut groves and relax near the river. Atlas Villages Trek 5 Days

Private 5 day Berber village trek

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from the airport or from your hotel in Marrakech to Imlil. From Imlil (1740m) we walk to Tacheddirt (2300m) via Tizi ‘n Tamatert (2279m) pass. We spend the night in a local gite. In summer it is also possible to spend the night in tents.

Approx. 4 hours walking.

Day 2: Today we walk from Tacheddirt to Imsker (1300m) down the Imnane valley crossing the following Berber villages: Ounskra, Tamguiste ,Ikkis, Amssakrou and Arg. We spend the night in a local gite or in tents.

Day 3: Imsker (1300m) to Tizi Oussem (1900m) via Tizi ‘n Lbour (1500m) pass, ait ali valley, Tizi ‘n Tacht pass (2000m), Ait Aissa village (Azzaden valley). You spend the night in Tizi Oussem in a local gite.

Day 4: Tizi Oussem (1900m) to Imlil (1740m) via Ighouliden Waterfalls (2400m) and Tizi Mzik pass (2450m. From here we walk back to Imlil. Night in guesthouse in Imlil.

Day 5: After breakfast, We shall stop at Aroumd to visit this rather singular village in the Assif Aït Mizane Valley, built seemingly house upon house on a large moraine spur, overlooking ancient irrigated terraced fields of barley, corn and vegetables and always surrounded by almond and walnut trees. We thence carry on for another Half an Hour to get to our lunch wish will be served among a Berber familly in the village of achayn prior to setting off back down the other side of the valley back to Imlil and our return trip to Marrakech.

Berber Villages Hike 5 Days

Itinerary :

Day 1 – Marrakech, Imi Oughlad, Tizi n’Tachte, and Tiziane20170430_104022

On the morning of the first day we will depart from Marrakech heading south through the Moulay Brahim gorge, and wind our way through the upper valleys until we reach our first stop at the higher foothills of the western part of the High Atlas Mountains. This will be the trailhead of Imi Oughlad (1,450m peak), Jbel Toubkal (highest peak in north Africa 4,167m), Aglzim (3,650m), and Aksoual (3,847m).

Day 2 – Tizziane, Tizi n’Taghrhourte, and D’knt20170909_123238

After a wonderful breakfast we begin on our way, hiking along the Assif n’ait Oussaden valley, taking us through the walnuts groves. We will reach the 1,995m peak of Tizi n’Taghrhourte and pass through a very rare, flat stretch of land before arriving at Assaka spring, this will be our next stopping point where we will have a picnic while enjoying the delightful silence. In the afternoon, the hike will take us down along the rim of the forest, then we will reach a Berber village called D’knt at just 1,870m or Agouns n Assoul. This will be our resting area for the night where we have dinner and sleep in a bivouac or gite.

Day 3 – D’knt, Tizi n’Tagdalte, and Tizi Oussemview-of-imlil-valley

On this morning we will be starting with a 3 hour hike through more walnut tree groves, fields of corn and barley, and encounter many herders with sheep and goats. On our way to Tizi n’Tagdalte we will make our way down along the juniper trees until we hit one of the springs among the trees – this will be our picnic spot for the day. Once everyone is feeling refreshed we are off again, winding down the tracks for another 3 hours before arriving at the river at the mouth of the valley of Assif n’ait Oussaden. From there we will come to the village of Tizi Oussem (1,850m) before arriving at the village of Tamsoult where we will set up camp for the night.

Day 4 – Tizi Ouseem, Tizi M’zzik, and Imlil20170505_114854

This day consists of a short adventure to the waterfall at Azib Tamsoulte, then return so we can cross the Tizi ‘n Mzzik pass (2,500m). Here we will join the main Toubkal valley at Imlil (1,900m) for lunch and spend the night in a guest house.

Day 5 – Imlil, Tizi n’ Tamatert, Ikkiss, Agersioual, and Back to Marrakech20151111_131219

With Jbel Oukaïmeden in sight, we begin on our 6-7 hour trek through Berber hamlets and head through 2 mountain passes. The route that we will be taking is circular so that we can take in as much beauty and scenery as possible. The trek starts off with us heading east from Imlil (1,740m), along the side of the Tamatert valley, before eventually heading north through the pass of Tizi n’Tamatert (2,279m), and into the Imenane after passing the Berber village of Tinerhourhine. From here we follow the valley north again through the mules trails that wind through almond, walnut, and apple groves until we arrive at Ikiss and up to Amssakrou. This will be our picnic stop for this day, where we can enjoy the views of the peak of Jbel Oukaïmeden (3,268m) and its 2 passes, Tizi n’Ou Arg (2,258m) and Tizi n’Tiratene (2,268m). The return trip starts with us heading west through the pass of Tizi n’Aguerssioual, and then through the valley of Assif n’ Ait Mizan, and then back to Imlil.

The next leg of the journey takes up through the mule trails in the Tizi n’Aguerssioual pass (1,767m), into the village of Aguerssioual in the Assif n’ Ait Mizane valley (2,664m), and then back south through the valley. This will take us towards the peaks of Jbel Toubkal, Aguelzim, and Aksoual, as well as the villages of Taddart and Ait Souka where we end the trip heading east, back to Imlil. The afternoon consists of the drive back to Marrakech.

Atlas Panorama Trek 3 Days

Day 1 :this morning our private tourist transport will pick you up from your Raid/hotel in Marrakech at 9.00am. And then take you to the starting point of your trek at Imi Oughlad is a small Berber village at elevation of (1,450m) where you will meet your guide and muleteer (about 1,5hrs journey). Once you have loaded up the mules, you will head off on your trek.Your first day will be an easier acclimatisation trek in the Ouirgane National Park. Today is the gentlest day of walking; there are fewer steep inclines and descents so you can really enjoy the Mediterranean-esque scenery. Shepherds tend to their goats amongst the pretty valleys dotted with juniper and oak trees. You will overnight in a Local Family’s home in Tinzert, a small rustic Berber Village. Approx 4 to 5 hrs walk

Day 2 :After breakfast you’ll head up through the big forest of oak trees, and a panoramic of the Ouirgane valley and villages, its very green valley all year around, also the good view of high atlas Mountains, always up to Tizi N’Takhrkhourt at (2200m), after this pass we skip the Ouirgane valley and then traverse over to the stunning Azzadene Valley and villages, passing traditional Berber mountain villages. The views open up as you walk up through the valley, you’ll see a rushing mountain stream surrounded by lush walnut groves leading up towards the peaks of the High Atlas at the head of the valley. You will overnight in a village Gite in Tizi Oussem. Approx 5hrs walk

Day 3 :Today involves a fantastic climb out of the Azzadene Valley. You’ll walk up the valley towards the pass at Tizi n Mzik (2479m) which offers dramatic views, before descending down into Imlil. If you’re felling energetic you can take a slight route detour to include the D’Irhoulidene waterfalls, this adds a couple of extra hours walking but is worth the effort. On arrival in Azib Brdoun at (1850) where you will having your picnic lunch, and then you’ll continue to Imlil and back to Marrakech or you have the second option for an overnight in Armed at village at (1980m) on feet of the Toubkal Pick. Approx 5hrs walk

Berber village Trek of 4 Days

Overview :

During this Atlas trek you will spending full  4 days with the Berber village people of the Atlas Mountains and get a taste for what their life is like. The trip starts off in the stunning Imnane Valley that is known for the small villages that are basically carved into the side of the hills.

The Berber people are significant because they are ancient people that were around before the arrival of Arabs and Islam. Their lifestyle is shaped by the magnificent, yet dangerous environment that they live in. The diet of the Berber people has to keep them strong enough to deal with living on a mountain, consisting mainly of: breads, soups, and barley products in general. Many homes in Berber villages are made of pise, which is a combination of stone and mud. Their marriage celebrations can even last up to a week, and villagers from all around the area of the celebration are invited.

 

 

Itinerary :

Day 1 – Imlil, Tizi n’Tamaterte, and Tachdirt

On the first day of the Berber village experience trip we will trek nearly 6 hours of the day. We will start at Imlil and head towards the Imnane Valley, where we will arrive at Tizi N’tamater (2,300m) for lunch. From there we hit the trail again on the way to Tachdirt where we will spend the evening in a guest house.

Day 2 – Tachdirt and Imsker

In the morning we head off from Tachdirt and will go towards the red villag at Imsker, while passing through many smaller settlements in the Imnane Valley. At night we will rest in gites (French for locally-owned houses) after the long 5-6 hour trek for the day.

Day 3 – Imsker, Tizi Oussem via Tizi n’ Libour Pass

Another 6-7 trek through the mountains will have you crossing the Imlil Valley, and heading all the way up to Tizi N’Tacht (2,100m). 4-day Berber villages is the perfect spot to enjoy lunch while taking in the beauty of the Azzenden Valley. The trek then continues towards Tizi Oussem where we will rest in gites again. Tizi Oussem also has a hamam you can try out, which is like a type of steam bath that the locals use.

Day 4 – Tizi Oussem and Imlil

The final day consists of another 5-6 hour trek. We will head towards Imlil and encounter a massive, breath-taking waterfall, and meet up with the supply mule in Tizi Mizzik (2,500m). After lunch, it’s time to head back to Imlil where the trip will end.
