Berber Villages Hike 5 Days

Itinerary :

Day 1 – Marrakech, Imi Oughlad, Tizi n’Tachte, and Tiziane20170430_104022

On the morning of the first day we will depart from Marrakech heading south through the Moulay Brahim gorge, and wind our way through the upper valleys until we reach our first stop at the higher foothills of the western part of the High Atlas Mountains. This will be the trailhead of Imi Oughlad (1,450m peak), Jbel Toubkal (highest peak in north Africa 4,167m), Aglzim (3,650m), and Aksoual (3,847m).

Day 2 – Tizziane, Tizi n’Taghrhourte, and D’knt20170909_123238

After a wonderful breakfast we begin on our way, hiking along the Assif n’ait Oussaden valley, taking us through the walnuts groves. We will reach the 1,995m peak of Tizi n’Taghrhourte and pass through a very rare, flat stretch of land before arriving at Assaka spring, this will be our next stopping point where we will have a picnic while enjoying the delightful silence. In the afternoon, the hike will take us down along the rim of the forest, then we will reach a Berber village called D’knt at just 1,870m or Agouns n Assoul. This will be our resting area for the night where we have dinner and sleep in a bivouac or gite.

Day 3 – D’knt, Tizi n’Tagdalte, and Tizi Oussemview-of-imlil-valley

On this morning we will be starting with a 3 hour hike through more walnut tree groves, fields of corn and barley, and encounter many herders with sheep and goats. On our way to Tizi n’Tagdalte we will make our way down along the juniper trees until we hit one of the springs among the trees – this will be our picnic spot for the day. Once everyone is feeling refreshed we are off again, winding down the tracks for another 3 hours before arriving at the river at the mouth of the valley of Assif n’ait Oussaden. From there we will come to the village of Tizi Oussem (1,850m) before arriving at the village of Tamsoult where we will set up camp for the night.

Day 4 – Tizi Ouseem, Tizi M’zzik, and Imlil20170505_114854

This day consists of a short adventure to the waterfall at Azib Tamsoulte, then return so we can cross the Tizi ‘n Mzzik pass (2,500m). Here we will join the main Toubkal valley at Imlil (1,900m) for lunch and spend the night in a guest house.

Day 5 – Imlil, Tizi n’ Tamatert, Ikkiss, Agersioual, and Back to Marrakech20151111_131219

With Jbel Oukaïmeden in sight, we begin on our 6-7 hour trek through Berber hamlets and head through 2 mountain passes. The route that we will be taking is circular so that we can take in as much beauty and scenery as possible. The trek starts off with us heading east from Imlil (1,740m), along the side of the Tamatert valley, before eventually heading north through the pass of Tizi n’Tamatert (2,279m), and into the Imenane after passing the Berber village of Tinerhourhine. From here we follow the valley north again through the mules trails that wind through almond, walnut, and apple groves until we arrive at Ikiss and up to Amssakrou. This will be our picnic stop for this day, where we can enjoy the views of the peak of Jbel Oukaïmeden (3,268m) and its 2 passes, Tizi n’Ou Arg (2,258m) and Tizi n’Tiratene (2,268m). The return trip starts with us heading west through the pass of Tizi n’Aguerssioual, and then through the valley of Assif n’ Ait Mizan, and then back to Imlil.

The next leg of the journey takes up through the mule trails in the Tizi n’Aguerssioual pass (1,767m), into the village of Aguerssioual in the Assif n’ Ait Mizane valley (2,664m), and then back south through the valley. This will take us towards the peaks of Jbel Toubkal, Aguelzim, and Aksoual, as well as the villages of Taddart and Ait Souka where we end the trip heading east, back to Imlil. The afternoon consists of the drive back to Marrakech.

Sahara Drive Experience 5 Days

Day 1:

Morning pick up from your Hotel/Raid in Marrakech and journey through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tichka pass (2260m), the highest road in Morocco. Offering panoramic views of the snow capped High Atlas Mountains and the magnificent landscapes. Visit the extraordinary sight of the Atlas Mountains Kasbah Telouet, a rustic town that was a principal stop of the caravan route. Here visit an amazing relic of Moroccan history, the crumbling Kasbah that was once a palatial residence of extremely powerful Glaouid tribe. Then continue with a visit to another impressive Kasbah AIt Ben Haddou. A UNESCO protected, built on a hilltop and featured in many movies such as Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. The views from the upper heights are awe inspiring and worth the required climb through the winding, narrow streets. Night by Ait Ben Haddou, breakfast & dinner

Day 2 :

this morning we head to the city of Ouarzazate, modern city where Kasbah Taourirt stand in the center. Today we will be exploring the amazing scenery of very deep gorges. Following the route of 1000 Kasbahs we view the Skoura Oasis and Rose Valley, Kellaa Mgouna to Dades Gorge. Carved by the Dades river is a photographic challenge for anyone. Capture the red and mauve road along the zig zagging road that leads us on top of the george. Then our next destination will be another very impressive Gorge and the highest oasis valley in Morocco, the Todra Gorge. The gorge cuts into the ocher-colored cliffs of the High Atlas. Its walls are 300 meters high and at their most narrow part are mere 20 meters apart. Then we start heading towards the Sarhro volcanic mountains quite different to the Atlas Mountains. It is a beautiful jumble of volcanic peaks punctuated by gorges, ruined Kasbahs. Eventually the road will slowly change along the Draa Valley. The longest rivet valley of Morocco lined by many palm groves, Sub Sahara Berber villages. Overnight in Todra Gorge, dinner and breakfast

Day 3:

Today feel inspired as we cross the Sarhro volcanic mountains very different to the High Atlas. It is a beautiful jumble of volcanic peaks punctuated by gorges, ruined Kasbahs. Then the scenery will change as we start approaching the Draa Valley, the longest river valley in Morocco. At first we view few of the date palms but approaching Zagora, we see one of the most beautiful stretches of the valley lined by many palms and small villages. Overnight in Zagora.

Day 4 :

Short drive to Tamengroute, to view the underground Kasbah and Koran library that features books from the 13th century, Then it will not be too long drive to M’hamid, last city of any civilization before the road disappears into nothing. We enjoy a nice lunch, before resuming our journey through the wild desert scenery. Travel across the desert landscape with a stop at Oasis Sacre, water source of the desert, Then late afternoon arrival to Erg Chigaga. Here your camels in the company of a guide to take you across those sand dunes during an amazing sun set. Ride approximately for 2 hours – a unique experience. Then time to settle at our camp where we stay for overnight.

Day 5:

After breakfast and stunning sunrise start heading back towards Marrakech. Travel through the sand dunes in your 4×4 wheel drive. Your driver’s skill will carry you across the sand dunes, the old rally Paris – Dakarroad. Pass the imaginary lake of Iriqui to Forum Zquid. There get back onto the main route. Make a lunch stop in Taznakcht – known for handmade Berber carpets, Expected arrival to Marrakech at 7pm.

Fes & Marrakech via Desert 4 Days

Day 1 : Fes -Merzouga

Starting in Fes we’ll drive south to Ifrane and Azrou in the Middle Atlas mountains, stopping in a cedar forest to see the Barbarian Apes in their natural habitat. We’ll then continue on through the Tizi Ntalghamt pass to Midelt and along the magnificent Ziz Gorges carved through volcanic rock, taking in views of the Middle-Atlas plateau noticing how the scenery changes to reveal hints of the desert as you approach the city Errachidia. After lunch there we’ll continue our journey through the Ziz valley to Arfoud. Overnight at the Hotel. Approx 7 hrs driving

Day 2 : Merzouga Area camel Ride

After breakfast we’ll start exploring the area, firstly visiting the Gnawa people – originally slaves brought from Sudan, to experience their music and lifestyle. Not far away there’s also the lake of Merzouga, with its bird populations. Afterwards you’ll leave for Rissani – once called Sijilmassa and the meeting place for the salt caravans, coming from Timbuktu in Mali. Here you’ll walk through the souk, smelling the spices, vegetables and cloths all for local sale. After a pizza lunch in Rissani, we’ll travel back to your Riad where your camel awaits you. After a glass of mint tea, and guided by an experienced camel man, you’ll begin your camel safari exploring within the mysterious sand-sea of the Erg-Chebbi. Here you will spend your night under the stars in a traditional Berber nomad tent. Dinner will be served in the tent where you’ll spend the night.

Day 3 : Merzouga – Dades

Your camel man will wake you up early in the morning to watch what well may be the best sunrise of your life. Afterwards, you’ll peacefully camel-trek back to your Riad. Appreciating the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes – changing with the light as the day progresses. After breakfast in the Riad, we’ll leave for Tinghir and Todra gorges – the highest, narrowest gorges in Morocco. Here you will have the opportunity to hike along the valley and after lunch in the heart of the gorge we’ll drive through the Dades Valley, where you’ll see the majestic sand castles and the amazing rock formations known as “monkey toes”. Overnight accommodation is in a hotel in the heart of the gorge. Approx 5 hrs driving

Day 4 : Dades -Marrakech

After breakfast in the hotel we’ll drive through the Dades Valley towards Kalaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate. The route through Dades Valley is the way of the thousand Kasbahs – providing numerous opportunities to take some of your best photographic shots of the trip. We’ll stop at Kalaat Mgouna, “the rose city”, to purchase the rosewater, which will make your linen smell good a long time after your trip is over. Continuing to Ouarzazate, “the Hollywood of Africa” we’ll stop for lunch at the famous Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco. After the visit of this UNESCO matrimonial historical site, now a house of the Glaoui family members – our journey will continue through the majestic Tizi n’tichka Pass (2260m) over the High Atlas Mountains, before arriving at your accommodation in Marrakech, where the tour ends. Approx 6 hrs driving

Desert Escape 3 Days

Day 1 :Marrakech -Tizi-n-Tichka Pass -Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah- Rose valley –  Dades Valley:

Pick up from your Raid/Hotel towards Ouarzazate, through the Tizi- N-Tichka pass (2260m) in the High Atlas Mountains. You will enjoy beautiful landscapes with different colors’ and the Berber villages along the way between Marrakech and Ouarzazate, the doorway to the Sahara desert. You will visit the UNESCO world heritage site Ait Benhaddou. Kasbah is one of many locations served as a natural decoration for many movies which were shot in the area such as “Lawrence of Arabia and Jesus of Nazareth” Take a walk and cross the dried river to discover Enesco Heritage Ait benhaddou and dominate the Kasbahs once you get to the top of the hill. Afterwards, you will head directly to Ouarzazate, You will Continue to Skoura palm grove, then Valley of the Roses the centre of Moroccan roses and rose products. Continue via the strange rock creation of Tamnalt Hills to Dades gorge, carved over centuries by the Dades River. Overnight right in the Dades Gorge lined by the red and mauve rock overnight in heart of dades Gorge. 7hrs of journey

Day 2 : Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga sand dunes :

Taking the road to second Gorge, via Berber villages of the Dades valley, Todra Gorge free time for a short visit along the canyons of about 300 m high, a preferred place by mountain climbers, Afterwards you will leave to Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga Sahara desert and you will have time for lunch on the way before you arrive to Erfoud. Once you arrive to the hotel near by the dunes having a cup of meant tea, and then you will take a camel ride for 1h at the sunset to get to the oasis where the camp is located and see the sunset. Spend the night in nomadic tent under shooting stars. With Berber music sometimes, Have diner in the camp. 6/7hrs of journey

Day 3 : Merzouga – Daraa valley – Ouarzazat – Marrakech:

Early weak up to injoy the sunrise then take the Camels back to the Hotel, have  breakfast and a quickly shower, then Return back a different way  to Ouarzazat the Moroccan Hollywood city through an arid landscape, Lunch in Ouarzazat before driving back over the high Atlas Mountains, Arrival in Marrakech evening about 8 pm, (approximately). 10 hrs of journey.

Ait Mizane Valley Day Trek

we will set off at 9 o’clock from Marrakech. Your mountain guide will meet you in the house to start walking in Toubkal National Park in Toubkal Valley with good views of Adj Mountain (3100m) and Aglzim Mountain (3900m) in front of the highest mountain in North Africa: Mount Toubkal (4167m). We will walk through green fields with apple, walnut, and cherry trees to Sidi Chamarouch (2315m). Sidi Chamarouch is a shrine to a holy man who lived in the Atlas. Besides people climbing and trekking in the Atlas, there are also pilgrims coming here to Sidi Chamharouch and its marabout shrine, most likely with its origin dating back to before Islam. Here you will have your lunch by the river and big water fall with your chef cooking and you sitting on a Berber carpet. After lunch you can take more pictures of the shrine from outside because there is one bridge you cannot cross unless you are Muslim. After this visit then we will head back to armed village (05 hours).

Ijoukak Valley Day Trip

Today after breakfast from Marrakech your guide and private transportation will meet you at the hotel at 09:00 in the morning to start driving. You will visit Ouirgane village, after 1.5hrs of driving, and the new dam to snap some photos. Following this stop, by car you will continue to the n’Fiss Gorges and Tagadirt n’Lbour, Moldikht, Imgdal, Igr n’Kouris, Ijoukak, and Talat n’Yakoub which has a weekly market on Tuesday. In the Oued n’Fis valley, you will find some Juniper, Barbary fig, apricot, cherry, almond and walnut trees. From here, you start to walk to Ait Berihi, Imawnan, and to Tinmel villages, followed by a visit to the 12th century mosque, Tinmel Mosque. We may enter the mosque, built by Abd el Moumen between 1153-1154, Afterward; we will go back to Ijoukak for lunch in a local Berber family’s home. After lunch, you will be taken back to the n’Fis Valley and Gorges by car and finally returning back to the hotel. Today’s walking time will be about 2 hours. Driving will be four hrs in total

Ouirgane Valley Day Trip

This morning from Marrakech, your guide and private vehicle will meet you at the hotel/riad at 09:00 in the morning to start the journey for 1h,30munte, and then Your hike will first go up to the Tirst Plateau and down to Ouirgane forest, full of junipers and pine trees. Following, you will continue to L’khmis Village, the village of Torourd , and then up through the Azaden Valley with very nice views of Takhrkhourt (large forest) in Toubkal National Park . Then, it is on to the Tasa Ouirgane with a small village. Here, we will have lunch in a local Berber family’s home and finally head back a different route to the Marirgha and travel back to Marrakech. The total walking time will be five hrs.
