Berber Villages Hike 5 Days

Itinerary :

Day 1 – Marrakech, Imi Oughlad, Tizi n’Tachte, and Tiziane20170430_104022

On the morning of the first day we will depart from Marrakech heading south through the Moulay Brahim gorge, and wind our way through the upper valleys until we reach our first stop at the higher foothills of the western part of the High Atlas Mountains. This will be the trailhead of Imi Oughlad (1,450m peak), Jbel Toubkal (highest peak in north Africa 4,167m), Aglzim (3,650m), and Aksoual (3,847m).

Day 2 – Tizziane, Tizi n’Taghrhourte, and D’knt20170909_123238

After a wonderful breakfast we begin on our way, hiking along the Assif n’ait Oussaden valley, taking us through the walnuts groves. We will reach the 1,995m peak of Tizi n’Taghrhourte and pass through a very rare, flat stretch of land before arriving at Assaka spring, this will be our next stopping point where we will have a picnic while enjoying the delightful silence. In the afternoon, the hike will take us down along the rim of the forest, then we will reach a Berber village called D’knt at just 1,870m or Agouns n Assoul. This will be our resting area for the night where we have dinner and sleep in a bivouac or gite.

Day 3 – D’knt, Tizi n’Tagdalte, and Tizi Oussemview-of-imlil-valley

On this morning we will be starting with a 3 hour hike through more walnut tree groves, fields of corn and barley, and encounter many herders with sheep and goats. On our way to Tizi n’Tagdalte we will make our way down along the juniper trees until we hit one of the springs among the trees – this will be our picnic spot for the day. Once everyone is feeling refreshed we are off again, winding down the tracks for another 3 hours before arriving at the river at the mouth of the valley of Assif n’ait Oussaden. From there we will come to the village of Tizi Oussem (1,850m) before arriving at the village of Tamsoult where we will set up camp for the night.

Day 4 – Tizi Ouseem, Tizi M’zzik, and Imlil20170505_114854

This day consists of a short adventure to the waterfall at Azib Tamsoulte, then return so we can cross the Tizi ‘n Mzzik pass (2,500m). Here we will join the main Toubkal valley at Imlil (1,900m) for lunch and spend the night in a guest house.

Day 5 – Imlil, Tizi n’ Tamatert, Ikkiss, Agersioual, and Back to Marrakech20151111_131219

With Jbel Oukaïmeden in sight, we begin on our 6-7 hour trek through Berber hamlets and head through 2 mountain passes. The route that we will be taking is circular so that we can take in as much beauty and scenery as possible. The trek starts off with us heading east from Imlil (1,740m), along the side of the Tamatert valley, before eventually heading north through the pass of Tizi n’Tamatert (2,279m), and into the Imenane after passing the Berber village of Tinerhourhine. From here we follow the valley north again through the mules trails that wind through almond, walnut, and apple groves until we arrive at Ikiss and up to Amssakrou. This will be our picnic stop for this day, where we can enjoy the views of the peak of Jbel Oukaïmeden (3,268m) and its 2 passes, Tizi n’Ou Arg (2,258m) and Tizi n’Tiratene (2,268m). The return trip starts with us heading west through the pass of Tizi n’Aguerssioual, and then through the valley of Assif n’ Ait Mizan, and then back to Imlil.

The next leg of the journey takes up through the mule trails in the Tizi n’Aguerssioual pass (1,767m), into the village of Aguerssioual in the Assif n’ Ait Mizane valley (2,664m), and then back south through the valley. This will take us towards the peaks of Jbel Toubkal, Aguelzim, and Aksoual, as well as the villages of Taddart and Ait Souka where we end the trip heading east, back to Imlil. The afternoon consists of the drive back to Marrakech.

Itinerary :

Day 01 Marrkech to Imlil Valley – Trek to Oussertek

After a transfer to the village of Oukeimden, where we enjoy panoramic views over toubkal mountains 4170 m, we meet our mules to carry our food and bags, with their muleteer and our trek cook, we start our trek. We walk from Oukeimden (2400m) towards Gueliz village, hereby passing by Tizi n Oukeimden. We will have lunch with a berber family at Agadir village (2000m). After lunch continue down across berber villages and terraced fields, we may see berbers cultivating fruits, corns, barley, or harvesting walnuts, berber women with their cows holding their handles of herbs on their backs, to Oussertekt. Later we arrive at Oussertek (1600m) where we will spend the night in a local gite. Approx. 4 hours walking.

Day 02 – Trek to Tachddirt

We depart from Oussertek valley up to tizi n tighaten, beautiful views from the pass, we cross, juniper amnd oak forests, we trek down to Imnan Valley, hereby we pass the Berber village Ikkiss (1700m) an authentic village with beautiful architecture, we have our lunch under the trees of walnuts. We then continue along the valley to Tachedirt, beautiful berber villages (1800m) . We will spend the night in a local gite in Tachddirt (1800m).

Approx. 6 to 7 hours walking.

Day 03 Trek to Imlil – Marrakech

Explore Imlil village and surrounding valleys.

Day 04 Trek to Imlil – Marrakech

We depart from Tacheddirt village 1980m to tizi n tamatert 2300m across terraced fields where you may see local berber cultivating barley, alfalfa, berber women carrying bundles of grass, and walk down to imlil across juniper and cypress forest, the most famous village of the high ATLAS (1740m) at the foot of TOUBKAL, North africa’s highest peak. we have our lunch and we drive back to Marrakech, Approx. 4 hours walking time.

Ourika and Setti Fatma waterfalls  Day Trip :

Ourika valley day trip is the closest day trip destination from Marrakech, due to its many waterfalls and wondeful nature, it is a very popular attraction , the Ourika valley spreads between the first foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Despite it being so close to Marrakech, this beautiful lush green valley is definitely one of the best preserved valleys in Morocco. At about 64km from Marrakech, the village lays at the end of the road, but an offroad (to Timichi) and then a mule track continues up the valley to pass to Tacheddirt and Oukaimeden, which has the best skiing station in Morocco and interesting prehistoric rock carvings. The path also continues through the mountain to Imlil and Toubkal, making it a useful starting/finishing point for trekkers. So this day trip to the picturesque village of Ourika will allow you to experience some of the beauty of the North African countryside without sacrificing the comforts of your hotel or riad.

Asni Valley Day Trip :

We start our Asni and Ouirgane day trip from Marrakech at 09am to The valley of Asni Ouirgane to see the one of the most beautiful countryside in Morocco and the lake that fills the fall floor. About an hour from Marrakech lies the magnificent green valley of Ourigane, hidden in the foothills of Mount Toubkal. You can visit the souk Tahanout (Tuesday and Saturday) before taking the drive through the river gorges Ghezaia on the way to Asni, famous for amethyst, for a picnic lunch while enjoying the fabulous mountain scenery. Ouirgane is the peak (the highest point) of the mountains around at an altitude that levels up 2300 meters in some areas, and spreads over many kilometers.
The Asni and Ouirgane Valley known as The Happy Valley with its amazing greenery, wild and flora, it is an ideal start point for treking lovers.
